We started Brainides because we got tired of seeing AI thrown into apps just for the sake of it. Our focus is different—we build mobile applications where artificial intelligence solves actual problems, not just marketing ones. Based in Taylor, Michigan, we've spent years figuring out what makes AI genuinely useful in everyday mobile experiences.

Why We Do This

Back in early 2023, we noticed something frustrating. Everyone was rushing to add AI features to their apps, but most of them felt clunky or unnecessary. We had a simple idea—what if we only used AI when it genuinely improved how people interact with their phones?

That philosophy guides everything we create. We don't chase trends or buzzwords. Instead, we spend time understanding what mobile users actually need, then figure out if AI can deliver that in a way that feels natural and helpful.

Our team works with businesses across the United States, helping them navigate the messy intersection of mobile technology and artificial intelligence. Sometimes that means building something from scratch. Other times it means being honest and saying AI isn't the right solution for their particular challenge.

We're a small team in Michigan who've worked together long enough to finish each other's sentences during code reviews. Our backgrounds range from traditional software engineering to experimental AI research, which keeps conversations interesting and solutions creative.

Caspian Thorne

Lead Mobile Architect

Caspian spent eight years building consumer apps before joining us in 2024. He's the person who figures out how to make complex AI models run smoothly on devices with limited processing power. Outside of work, he's usually hiking around Michigan's state parks or tinkering with vintage synthesizers.

Desmond Kael

AI Integration Specialist

Desmond came from academic research where he worked on natural language processing. He joined us because he wanted to see his work used by real people instead of just published in journals. He's obsessed with making AI interactions feel conversational rather than robotic, and tests every feature on his less tech-savvy relatives first.

How We Actually Build Things

Our process starts with a lot of questions and prototyping. We usually build three or four different approaches to any AI feature before settling on the one that actually works well on mobile devices.

Testing happens continuously—we have a group of volunteers who use early versions of everything we build. Their feedback often completely changes our direction, and we've learned to embrace that rather than fight it.

By late 2025, we're planning to expand our testing program to include more diverse user groups. Real-world usage patterns teach us things that lab testing never could.
